BIB sponsors insurance for all Argus bicycles transported to and from Cape Town with Elliott Interna

Burnt Truck
Elliott International has transported in excess of 1 000 bicycles to and from the Cape Argus Cycle Tour every year for the past 4 years. Although this brilliant service has been well received by the cycling fraternity over the years, disaster struck in 2009 when an Elliott trailer accidentally caught alight on route to Cape Town and a total of 58 bicycles were destroyed in the fire.

Fortunately, the Elliott Team on the scene managed to save the second trailer which contained 85 bicycles and a further 22 bicycles were also rescued from the burning trailer. Despite Elliott not being contractually obliged to do so, Elliott provided financial assistance to all bicycle owners who were either under insured or not insured at all. This swift and decisive action taken by Elliott resulted in a huge financial loss to Elliott.

In order for Elliott to avoid something like this from happening again, they consulted with their insurance brokers, of over 30 years (Barker Insurance Brokers) and decided to cover all bicycles whilst in their custody and care up to a maximum value of R20 000.00 per bicycle.

This is a first in the industry and has been automatically included into the overall bicycle transportation package at NO additional cost to the customer. Barker Insurance Brokers who specialize in niche short term Commercial & Personal insurances has agreed to sponsor the full cost of insuring the 2011 event with a maximum exposure of approximately R20.0 million.
