Barker Insurance Brokers otherwise known as “BIB” was founded by Ken & Bev Barker in 1973. Sons Rhett & Lloyd have since joined the business with their wives Tess and Sally and have contributed enormously to the continuity and success of the business. Our entire Team has been extremely supportive and loyal to the company over the years and have all become an integral part of this family business.

OBJECTIVES     To ensure that BIB remains at the fore front of the industry many positive changes continue to take place daily however the basic philosophy of running the business conservatively has remained the same. This has resulted in the consistent growth & success of the business.

We are constantly looking at new & better ways of running our administration system which results in reduced insurance costs, flexibility in adapting service to our clients changing needs and ultimately greater client satisfaction. This has been proven over the years as there are many BIB clients who have been insured with us since our business started. We feel that it is far more important to service existing clients than concentrating all our efforts on attracting new clients.

OUR PREMIUMS ARE COMPETITIVE AND SERVICE IS WORLD CLASS     There are a number of important reasons which contribute to maintaining our insurance premiums and levels of service at extremely competitive levels:

  • Our selection of quality clients. i.e. Good “moral risks.” We do not tolerate fraudulent claimers!
  • We assist clients with managing their risk which helps to reduce claims and insurance premiums. E.g. we contribute generously towards additional vehicle and home security which is unheard of in the industry.
  • We refund premiums if you do not claim. We started this scheme in 1995 which was a first in the industry and possibly the world.
  • We answer 98% of all incoming phone calls within 3 rings.
  • All our personal insurance policies are placed with the Hollard Insurance Company, one of the leading insurers in South Africa today.
  • The people that work at Barker Insurance are unquestionably the biggest asset to the company and our clients.

WE MAKE USE OF THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY     TECHNOLOGY In April 2006 we implemented a new “state of the art” insurance policy management system. This system allows us to deliver an even better level of service to our clients. The main improved features include:

  • Policy amendments are made “live” and updated documents emailed to clients immediately.
  • The layout of our certificate of insurance has been improved to make it easier for our clients to read and understand, along with complying with the Financial Services Board regulations.
  • Claims will be paid directly into clients bank accounts which will save time and money.
  • All policy changes will be logged and tracked electronically.
  • Power failures no longer affect our computer and telephone systems as we have installed a diesel generator with auto start which keeps us up and running when clients need us.

Still in development :

  • We will also be able to communicate important information to policyholders by SMS.
  • Policyholders will be able to access their cover detail via the internet.
